I have a F100 that had a 360 but is now a 390. Someone swapped it out, I went to NAPA to get a clutch but there must be two different ones.
the clean one has less diameter than the old one. Do you guys know was the old one out if a car maybe? The new one was for a truck with a 390 in it. Back to NAPA The old clutch. 3 fingers on this one. New truck one.
! The things you find out!
Ford never used a diaphragm style pressure plate in a FE powered truck or car, also a 360 and 390 use the same 11 inch clutches
The Luk diaphragm style clutch you have will work and normally has a lighter pedal pressure but may not have as much holding power as a lever style
That said most later model vehicles had diaphragm clutches
There is no telling what has been done to these old trucks by previous owners over the years. When I got my 1966 back in 1980 it had 390 with top loader 4 speed. Hope this makes sense. When I went to replace clutch it turned out that tranny and clutch was out of small block 1968 or maybe 1967? Just a few years that setup was used. I don't know how some one came up with that combo to make it work. I had lost the yoke over the years. Number Dummy helped me find the correct yoke. I went back with a diaphragm clutch. Working good. Good luck.
Well I finally sourced one from LMC. There re none in Canada at Napa, Partsource, autozone, and other. I found this pretty weird. I thought this would have been a common item. Got an 11” level one, hope the hell it works! It is holding up my engine install, hopefully get it this week!
