Hey all. Long time viewer first time poster. Been working on my 93 F150 5.0. Having issues with fuse 13 blowing and losing brake lights. Following wires i stumbled upon this burnt crap.. Anybody know what part this is? Mounted on driver side frame below master cylinder. Wires run all the way thru to back. Thanks
Right
That looks like the Brake Pressure Switch (BPS) for the speed control system. 1993 was the only year it was located along the frame rail. 1994 and later it was mounted to a port on the master cylinder. There is(was?) an active recall to install a revised power harness and replace the switch if it is leaking, which yours was. As you can see the connector is melted on the switch and the wires. Usually when that happens the entire front end of the vehicle goes up in flames. Call your Ford dealer to schedule the recall installation. I believe it is still in effect.
Meanwhile unplug that harness from the switch - what burns usually is the brake fluid, and so if you take the current that can ignite it away from it you should be alright till visiting the dealer for a new switch and the double-fused harness. Obviously cruise will be inactive temporarily.
