Got home early from work today, walked in the house and went and looked out the bedroom window and what do I see?? A nice 6 point buck standing not 10 feet from the house. I stood there and watched him wander into the woods and came down to our computer room (in the lower level) to check out FTE. After sitting here for 30 minutes reading posts, I hear the leaves rustle outside the window and turn my head to see what it was. Here stand 8 wild turkeys looking into the window at me! They hung around for about a half hour then they too wandered into the woods. Too bad I can't find my digital camera right now I already love living in the country again.
My parents live in a gated community and the deer are protected there. They run throught he property every night and eat everything. Makes for good times for the kids though. they get a kick out of seeing the bucks, does and fawns when we visit.
Eight Thanksgiving dinners just looking at you. I personally don't like deer nor turkey meat. But I can cook them really well.
Where I work there are usually a dozen or so turkey's running around in the parking lot. They are gone now (wonder why?). But they are a big nuisance around the cars. This is a large parking lot, and you can see them flying ontop of cars. Pooping all over them, and leaving nasty scratches.
Their around everywhere, except when your hunting for them.
funny... i walked out my house this morning to start my truck....two LARGE does just chillin in hte yard... did not even get off their butts when i fired the truck up..in the 5 months i have lived in Bass Lake, i have not had one day where i did not see a deer in the yard...and had at least 30 close calls while driving! the population is gettin crazy!
Wednesday, we had a race with a ringneck pheasant. We saw him along the road. He chased us, so we slowed down, and he kept pace with the truck. Everytime we stopped, he stopped, and so on. He ran right alongside the truck for over half a mile. I got some good pics. Never saw one when I was hunting them.
That is one of the pleasures of living where I do. A family of deer moved in shortly after we did, and we get to watch the young ones grow up over spring and summer. They look so cute when only 12 inches tall. We have vultures that walk around on the grass, not turkeys,, pity. I wonder what a vulture tastes like?
