I replaced my brake pads about 6 months ago without turning the rotors. Now when braking-but only from speeds of 25mph and down- there is this loud rrrrring noise? does anybody know what this could be. there is no vibration and stopping power has not decreased. thanks
it is a 99. I took it to a shop and showed them the noise, he inspected it and said the brakes are fine, he tried something and the noise went away for like 3 days. He said if it came back we should probably just start over with new pad and turning the rotors. I just wanted to see what other people thought.
I think I would do that anyway, also inspect and grease the wheel bearings. Did you check the pins to make sure they move free and put on new slippers. Is it 4 wd, the problem could be there.
If there were any grooves or uneven wear on the rotors, with your new pads you will sometimes get that noise chatter....This is why it's usually mandatory to turn the rotors on every set of new pads....Your mechanic is right, if you have to turn the rotors you will need new pads, the other set you can put up for emergencys....Reason why is because if there was uneven wear and or grooves, the pads will already be affected by them....If it's money of issue, use emery cloth on the rotors and polish them up from the road grime, and use a rougher sandpaper on your existing pads to roughen them up...This will maybe help with the noise....also check and see if there's something that might be leaking on your pads....
