Windshield Just Cracked.................

Out of no where...I was out in the driveway running around with the kids when I heard the unmistakable sound of glass of glass cracking. It was very strangbe. It is only 60 degrees here today so its not ike it ws frozen then super heated or anything. It was just very bizzare. At least it didn't shatter it just cracked. A new windshield is $165.00 installed. I'll probably go thru my insurance anyway since I have full glass I might as well use it.....

It's almost worth the money to get new glass because of the better visibility. It's amazing how many pits and scratches can accumlate over a few years of high speed interstate or desert travel or even low speed offroad stuff. A semi trailer threw a rock into mine last winter up in the AZ mountains so a new one was mandatory. Enjoy your new glass.

Safelite will be here Monday morning. Hopefully it doesn't explode between then and now. Covered under insurance with no deductible.

My '02 did the same thing. I had $100 deductible, I wondered what it cost the ins co. The tint in the new one (not Ford) doesn't seem to be as dark.

If you are serious about the exploding comment, don't worry. The windshield is actually two layers of glass sandwiching a sticky clear vinyl layer. No way will it explode. However, you will as you continue to drive it and watch the crack grow...

Safelite came and replaced the windshield. Took him about 30-45 minutes. Charged the insurance company $224.67. I can't drive for about 1 hour and no car wash for 2 days. So now I have to drive a dirty truck for 2 days..............................At least I have a new windshield........

Ain't that the truth.
I used a glass polish to take off oil film and grime a couple times a year.
Doesn't do anything for the tiny pits and such that can be seen when the sun is shining.
Got lucky last year when a small stone chip near the inspection sticker area was repaired and held.
