I've seen where you all are having problems with your fuel gauge reading right. I can have an empty tank and put any amount of gas in and it reads full until you run it for a while and then it will bounce back and forth. I can never tell how much gas I have in my tank. The thing is that this happens to both of my tanks on my truck. Is this the sending unit and if so what is the best route to go on replacing it.

My 88 F150 does that too. I cleaned the connections at the sending unit and it helped...but it still bounces a bit.
Might be the sending unit, its just easier to try cleaning first

of defective fuel gauge sending units! I'm sorry to say it but unless you spend the money on new fuel pump/sending unit assembly's, you will just have to get used to tanking up every 200 or so miles. But, don't we all keep track of our mileage anyway ?

my gauge did the same thing. its a 1986 f-150. The needle would go back and forth. I ordered a new sending unit from ford for about $85 and now it works great. You might also try a junk yard but besure to get the exact same unit
