94.5 F250. Started to experience hard steering after a new set of Falken wild peak AT tires. Replaced the PS pump with a reman.. Rolling the wheel was fine up on stands when I refilled the system. Tried different tire PSI, didn't change. I've searched and a few discussions about the problem said that the gear box may be bad. Has anyone had this problem before or any ideas ?
If the tire contact patch increased, then it's normal to feel a but more resistance when turning the wheel. It shouldn't be difficult to turn, however.
Whats the tire size? I have 37" dump truck tires on my truck and it steers fine. So unless you have some seriously wide boggers with a huge contact patch, the gearbox could be an issue like you mention.
Is this at idle that it has issues? Does bumping the rpms up a smidge help?
