I have a 1995 F-150 that my fiancé and I were working on together. He passed away a little over a year ago and I’m wanting to get the truck back up and running but it is a huge task that would take me forever to complete by myself. So, I am looking for a shade tree mechanic around the castle rock/monument/Colorado Springs area that would be willing to get the truck back up and running for me. I need to replace one piston (it broke when my fiancé was tapping it back in because it fell on the floor) but beyond that, if I remember correctly it really just needs to be put back together. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
Hey, my condolences. I live in Aurora near Centennial. My schedule is packed with kids and work during the week but I can help you move the project along on a weekend day or two. I'm very familiar with that year truck.. I used to be a wrench in the Marines, I think that qualifies me as 'shade tree'. lol
Hey Chad, thank you so much! That sounds perfect! I would love to be able to learn how to fix my truck as it gets worked on, since that was what my fiance was doing, so that's why I am trying to avoid taking it to a shop. I'm pretty busy during the week too, but I would love help on a weekend if you would be willing!
Yea, I'll scout it out and see what can be done. We can get it running again. That engine can go in and out within a few hours, everything is relatively light in comparison to what I've been working on. Count on 12-14hrs total casual wrenching time from start to finish. That's 2-3 days in real time or 4-5 weekends. Are you set on building this engine yourself or are you open to having it sent to a machine shop for assembly?
Thank you! That sounds like a decent estimate on getting it back up and running. I would love to be able to build the engine myself because I think my fiance and I were almost done getting the engine put back together. But I would also be willing to send it to a machine shop for assembly if it would be a huge undertaking to do myself.
Here's some options if you want to build it yourself. I think ASE material is dryer than a Colorado winter day. But the books are $25. I spend a little more $ and use HP academy for training because they are a lot more engaging and it's information I can't find anywhere else.
Those look like great resources! If I remember correctly what had last been done, the engine was almost rebuilt so that makes it seem a little more reasonable for me to be able to finish it up with some help. I will have to try working my way through those books....even though they are dry haha.

Hi Chad,
I had to get a couple things in order but I’m ready to start working on my truck. Would you still be willing to help me? If so, maybe I could get your contact information to make communicating a bit easier? Thanks!!
Sorry about the delay in response. Life can get away from you sometimes. Are you still working on your truck?

No problem, totally understandable! I currently have someone who is working on rebuilding the engine for me. Not sure if he will also be putting the engine back in and helping me put everything back together or not.
