I found it's through AT&T. Is that something I have to sign up for? Does it go away after a while? Can you use it for VOIP or video streaming? Just curious.
Yes, it is a data plan that requires sign up and monthly plan fee. You can do whatever you want with it. The trucks come with a trial period, I found that it eats through data pretty quickly.

So probably not worth much because I can just connect the truck to my phone and use it's internet/phone. Is there any capability I loose going that route? I have AT&T fiber in my apartment. Maybe there's a way to bundle the truck in with that? I also wonder if I could switch carriers as my phones are TMobile.

I'm not sure if there is a speed and/or performance advantage to using the truck as a hotspot vs your phone. There may be. I'm surprised there haven't been posts from those with more experience yet. I only used the trial of the hotspot, and have no need for this type of service. I don't recall the plans and pricing, or bundling options, it's been a couple years since I last looked into it. AT&T is the only service provider that can be used for the trucks Wifi hotspot.
When I had my 17 truck, that did not have the WiFi and friend had his newer truck with Wifi. He was able to send text out thru his truck connection, when I had no connection on my cell phone. So I believe the truck has a slightly stronger signal than my iphone.
If you are already on ATT wireless, Adding the truck is only $5 or $10 a month and gives you unlimited data. So this past year with Covid, I did a lot of Video phone calls with Architects, using my laptop computer thru the truck's WiFi, from my job sites vs in person conferences. The problem is, the WiFi is only on when the truck is turned on. If I had an hour video call. I either left the truck idle or would press the start button and turn on aux power and it would automatically turn it off every 30 minutes to save the batteries. Terminating my video call. I had to turn the truck on/off before that 30 minute timer did the auto shut off.
