I have been keeping an eye out for a decent candidate truck to put my extra vintage 4x4 running gear into to do a legit upgrade. A nice runner truck that just needs brakes or rearend work preferably (not the basket case). I am watching 1954-1963 and (at least in my area Oregon) even yard rotted incomplete trucks people want over $1-3k.
The question I have for the group is suggesting places to watch for the candidate. Also wondering if my expectations are outdated as well. I dont do Facebook or Insta crap cause I like my privacy and Im older too.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and thoughts!
Hard to believe what some folks want for stuff but if you are patient it will happen. I don't do any of that other tech as well basically for the same reasons. I do look on craig's list but that's about it.
I have a neighbor on the Olympic Peninsula with an early '60's Ford pickup that is rotting away in his driveway. I noticed the other day the overhang of the back window is getting cancer. I used to have a picture, but must have dumped it when I got my truck. I was going to see what he was going to do with it since he used to have two, but I've already tried to resurrect a vehicle years ago and my wife cut the funds when the costs escalated ridiculousy.
Good luck! Anything not completely rotted out or missing half it parts is big money right now. It all evens out though. Most of the time you spend a smal amount you have to fix it more. Spend more you save having to fix things.

Im happy with fixing things! Gonna replace the running gear at minimum. I just want to avoid too many missing pieces that must be hunted down (some of which are made out of Unobtanium)!

I think that’s why I was so excited about my purchase- no drivetrain at all. But I hear you on the pricing, everything is out of control right now. Patience and flexibility will pay off though. I was looking for something in need of repair at a reasonable price. One got a away and I was bummed, but eventually I found piece I could wrap my head around.

Are you still looking for another project? I'm not sure how this privet message stuff works but I got a 62 Ford F100 4x4 with a 352 4 speed manual and a PTO drive winch. Its old of course so it does have some issues. The cab seems to be in decent shape could use some cab support repairs. I'm just west of Salem Oregon area

So what price range have you guys been seeing “shells” or dead rolling stock? You know, the candidate that is not crusher worthy rusted but not a concourse candidate either...

Last fall, I paid $450 for mine and it was a shell of its former self. Rusty, but manageable in terms of a “patina build.”
I have a $2000 budget and am obviously needing to be patient. It feels like the pool of unmolested projects is dwindling. I would carefully consider a basket case only if all crucial parts were there.
