Speedo cable doesn't reach

I got a 351w - M50d - borg warner 1356 - in my 1983 ford f150. It is a swb and it has the swb speedo cable in it. problem is that it's about 3-6 inches short ( off of the top of my head ) yeah I tried to pull the most slack out of it. The trans-t-case combo came off of a 1989 f250 w/ a 5.0. Could I just use the speedo cable from that year? Will it work/ fit in my 83 gauge? Ik the gauge is a different size so would that affect the needle movement? Or... should I find a ZF 1356 speedo cable if such a thing exists? ( lengthwise might be longer??)

Yes, get the cable off the other truck, it should fit better. If it's a little too long let the extra cable loop on top of the frame to the outside and then back in. Try not to make any tight bends with it. If it's a little too long you might not be able to use the factory clamps, just wire tie it down in it's new home so it will not get caught on the front driveshaft.

Also, attach the cable to the speedometer end first. It’s a lot easier. Instead of fighting to put the cable end on the speedo when you can’t see well or don’t have enough slack.
