they say that ur not supposed to use ur e-brake in freezing weather. i personally dont trust 1st gear to hold the truck on a hill without any help. i would try dealford's way and lube up all the moving parts.
I have heard of a speedometer cable lubricant that is supposed to run through the cable and lubricate a cable with a sheath. I've been told that it is an oil with a lot of graphite in it. This would be your best bet to lubricate the cable itself. I haven't found any yet but I have only checked two places so far. I am planning on checking with a dealership or two if I can't find it at a parts store. Hope this helps.
For everything else your best bet is a white lithium grease spray. You can find that at any local parts store or your local Wal-Mart. Cost is about $2.00 a can.
