How about one of those horns that's supposed to sound exactly like a locomotive? Always good for a laugh when school busses are slowing down for railroad crossings....
the truck is pretty loaded--he's making a backrack for it and he actually does want to get a train horn for it but already has a custom exaust and the programmer. one of his biggest complaints is the weak horn. his family has a train horn but i don't think he'll be able to convince his dad to let him put it on his truck. its pretty loud so you'll hear him coming a mile away.
i like the bow idea and i've tried variations on that a few times. it was the theme of him old 92 F350 7.5L big block crew cab with a beautiful custom front bumper that he designed and made himself. i think its time for another stab at that one though...
Yup, a good memory is priceless. I used to snicker everytime my momma rode in the backseat of my 59 belair, if she only knew that's probably where her granddaughter came from.
Call me unromantic, but I've never liked the "unwrap me!" gift idea. That's just taking something he's already got, wrapping it up, then calling it a present. Gee, thanks....
You could write your name on a rock and give it to him as a paperweight.
an air compressor-thats what my hubby wants.
rollaway- so it doesn't hurt the back when he gets underneath it
shop rags- can always use these
change his oil for him (it's really easy), or just buy him the filters, oil (case), etc
tools-does he have a toolbox??
truck cover?
or just buy him a gift card to sears, or some truck shop. Let him decide
IMO, gift cards are generic, not too say that they don't have their place. When it's someone close to you, the least you could do it pick out the gift. I really like the idea of stuff for the truck. I would be thrilled if my gf went to the trouble to get the stuff I need to do an oil change. I would know that it came straight from the heart because she would have to do a lot of digging or get one of my friends to help, since she doesn't know diddly about anything automotive.
If you buy him anything automotive related, do your homework. Therer is nothing worse that getting something from a loved one that is totally not of the quality or fitment that you would use and then having to use it anyway so they won't have their feelings hurt. He may not want to spend the next several years running around with huge mudflaps with cartoon characters on them.
what about one of these history books, something like: "The story of the F-Serie", or a Haynes Techbook, headliner storage console, luminescent Gauges, white face dash gauges, a anti sway bars set, a bug reflector, a visor, a power slider window, a grill guard, a show grill, taillight graphex, a spay on line for his truck bed, a Pace edwards tonneau cover, a roll pan, a steering stabilizer..........to be continued
just a few ideas, maybe he will like one of them....
I must agree with the bow idea being a good one as a "bonus" gift but as the main gift no really a good idea, and as far as the gift card,,,, well I would not really care for that either because on one hand it enable him to get whatever he wants and needs it shows that you might have went out the night b4 christmas and grabbed what ever you could find..
My sugestion is,
1. do a lil home work and find him something for his truck like chrome running bars/cattle bars.
2. Go with him next time he goes looking for "toys" for his truck and watch and listen what he wants/need can be real helpfull
not sure if I helped any but just thought I would jump in
