Always a topic for debate and many times measured in the heights of front and rear bumpers, etc. When I look at the profile of a truck my eye is drawn to the running board as a good indicator of the stance. I am in the process of replacing the rear suspension on my 56 and have the bed removed so it's difficult to get a feel for the stance except at the running boards. One of my favorite 56's belongs to a friend in SoCal, his truck rides relatively flat at the running boards but I am sure that there is somewhat of a rake there if a tape was put on the boards. How high do your running boards sit, is this your perfect stance?
For my liking that is a little too flat and the front and rear tires appear to be the same whereas I prefer a little more big n little . There are allot of things I don't care for on this but the stance is very close to my vision .
This is just me, but I don't think a real truck should look like it's transitioning to be a Ranchero. My ideal stance for a truck is straight and tall and appearing capable of leaving the pavement for some work in the field or forest. Opinions of course vary, and others are equally as valid. We have some great looking trucks on this forum that don't necessarily conform to my ideal that I can still appreciate. They are just different from what I would do myself.
Here's a picture I found once that I found attractive and inspirational. One of those pics that said to me if my truck ever looked that good, I'd be happy.
I did a mockup today, adjusting the frame height to where I think it will sit when the coilovers are in place. I came up with 8 inches clearance on the running board at the front fender and 9 inches at the rear. I was hoping to get some numbers to go along with the pics so I could correlate the look with the numbers. Thanks for the pics, hopefully others will find them useful when they are setting up their suspensions.
Here are 4 examples of the perfect stance, in my opinion!
Here is the stance of my 54. The leaf springs are original but new hangars and hardware was put on several years ago. I think it sits low in the front due to tired springs.
I tend to like a bit of a rake. I'm also not a huge fan of extremely lowered trucks, air bags, etc. On 4x4 trucks I like tall and skinny tires.
My truck is basically stock suspension. I think I might have taken one leaf out of the front set but nothing extreme. I'm running the same size tires front and rear (235/15). For the most part I like the stance
I dont have a recent pic handy, my laptop crashed a week or so ago and I'm still trying to recover all my pics. Here's one from 2006
I too like a rake. Back in the day I had air shocks on my 57 Bel Air and my 55 210 model 2 door sedan. The fad in the 70's was to jack them up as high as you could!
