Recommended maintenance at 200K miles?

Hello all,

I bought a 2015 F250 this past October with 181,000 miles on it. It is now nearing 200K and I was wondering what maintenance is advisable and should be performed? Since buying, I have done oil changes and fuel filter change. My last diesel was a 92' 7.3 IDI so I am relatively unfamiliar with these newer engines.

It seems the truck was serviced regularly at proper intervals prior to this at Ford dealerships, but I don't have actual records of what was done.

I plan to:
1) Flush orange coolant and switch to yellow
2) Replace trans filter
3) Replace air filter (I think its original)
4) Replace belt and tension and idler pulleys (I think its original)

Open to suggestions on what else to do?

Congrats on meeting the 200k milestone...

I would include:
Front are rear differential fluids
Transfer case fluid (Mercon LV)
Stay with OEM parts

completed front end inspection while you are under there, You only have a couple of grease fittings, hit them.

The two that I know of are the front axle u-joint fittings. Check the steering fluid see how dark it is and smells. I've been wanting to do a steering pump flush and fill since last year.

Check the brake fluid. Maybe do a fluid flush there. That stuff gets gunky also.

Fuel filter change; the one on the frame (diesel fuel conditioning module) and the HPFP (high pressure pump) under the hood.

I would call the dealer and give them your list and see what they would charge for all the fluid changes. It's a pain to depose of all the different fluids. You can change fuel and air yourself. I have replaced my air filter 3 times already so you are over due. LOL Good luck with your truck I love my 15.

You can't make decisions based upon what you think you know. If the truck was serviced at Ford, it will show up on their maintenance records. Contact a dealer and ask them for the vehicle's service history. Go through your owner's manual to understand what Ford calls for in service both in time, hours, and miles. Try to find evidence the Ford plan was followed. You basic plan looks good, but why would you want to change out the coolant if it was done 20k miles ago? Same for the transmission. If you're doing it just to put yourself in a comfortable place, then by all means. And at 200k, you have plenty of life left in that drivetrain. I know many think that's high mileage, but it isn't. Not for a diesel or a gasser. It's what we refer to as just broken in.

2X on replace all filters and change/flush all fluids including brake and power steering. Remember to change the cabin air filter (if it has one). Then start over in the maintenance schedule as if it's a new truck at zero miles

I'd also like to add that I monitor the fuel pressure from the DFCM (which is measured at the HPFP) on my iDash. If I see any significant drop in pressure, I'd check on that lower primary filter. I let the truck tell me when to change the oil (usually at about 7.2k miles). The Ford manual says to change the fuel filters every 3rd oil change or by 22.5k miles. That's when I change mine. Just FYI.

Yes a steering pump fluid exchange is a excellent idea. I did mine a couple years ago by simply using a turkey baster an sucked out the fluid and refilled a couple of times and called it good.
