Another New Shop Thread

I am Building a New Shop Also. The old 24x40 Pole Barn with two-s on it was rotting away. I tore it down and enclosed my car port to hold what I kept out of the pole barn. So far I have dug out the bank with my little back hoe to get the area some what level. I had to build a dirt pad to reach the top of the bank. My cousin is bringing his transit over Monday or Tuesday so we can see how close I got the area. Next is to form it for the new 24x40 building. Going with metal this time.

Sounds exciting. You have had to do a lot of work just to get to a starting point! Will you have to put up a retaining wall on that dirt bank? Us flatlanders don't understand Mountain construction😆 Have fun, Dave

Dave, I have pivoted the new building some to get away from that bank. The ground has been mostly like this for over 30 years. I just add some to one side where the pole barn wasn't too level. I will add more after we shoot it with a transit. It has been a lot of work so far. I checked on spray foam insulation and they want almost 6,500 to spray it. Crazy how high stuff has gone

On mine I used what they called flash and batt. It has an 1 1/2" of spray foam and 6" of fiberglass with blown in for the ceiling. It takes 1 electric heater to keep it comfortable. And I have 12x12 door that opens a few times a day.

Since we all like to see progress and pictures here is what we done yesterday. We got it all formed up for the pad. We have to leave the one end out and ready so the concrete truck can back up and reach the other end. This morning we got to add some still in a grid before the truck gets here at 10.30. After the pour it will take 3 to 4 weeks before the 24x40 metal building gets put up.

Yes, love seeing progress!

Are you putting in a vapor barrier? It was highly recommended to me and I made sure it was included with my building.

Yes Rich I am. The pad was poured yesterday. It took 16 yards of concrete. He did a slick finish on it and I think it turned out nice. I did put my initials in the right corner.

Looks great Tracy! Are they going to come back and cut some relief cuts in the concrete? You might also consider putting a concrete sealer on it. Some products want you to put it on right away while others want you to let the concrete cure for a while. Got to love all the blue tarp covers😆 A guys got to do, what a guys got to do! Hopefully you will have dry weather till they get the structure up! Looking forward to the vertical part of the construction!

Looking good. I'm looking forward to watching your progress.
While mine is close to being done, I love seeing all the ideas. I always seem to find new info I can use to make my shop better.

Dave, my sand blaster is under one tarp and my tiller for my tractor is under one and a old mower is under the other one. I took what barn wood i could save and some tin and enclosed my 2 car, car port to hold what will go inside this building but some will get hauled away. I think i am going to paint the concrete later and put some of them colored chips in the paint. Not sure yet.

They dropped their trailer off on Tuesday night with the complete building on it. They got started about 7 am yesterday and with only two hard working young men they finished about 6.30 Happy as I can be with the way it looks.
