Looking for the Driveshaft Drum Brake Parts used on the T-98 transmission..?
I removed it years ago when I first put this truck back together... now have a need for it.
I have regular drum brakes on the rear axle but need to be able to "lock" all four corners when pulling with the winch.
I tried installing a electric "line Loc" for the front axle, but it created a flow issue ( slow pedal action ).
Seems the orifice in the valve is too small maybe..?
Anyhow...
If someone may have a T-98 laying around with this brake assembly on it..?
I would need all parts; Drum, Output Flange, Bearing Retainer, Hand Brake Handle, Linkage.
Bearing would not be needed as when I removed the Bearing Retainer... The Retainer I put on used the same bearing.
Thanks,
You are absolutly CORRECT... I stand corrected.
I was not thinking when I explained what all I am trying to do here.
Yes...As you stated, as I want to "dig in " to make a hard pull you would be correct.
The other issue I am having is to be able to "crab walk" either end of the truck such as getting around tight turns and such.
As I use my Jeep doing this:
I select either axle... Apply braking to the axle I have disconnected to...then add power to the axle still engaged to somewhat "slide" that end around.
I need to do this with the truck as well.
After I posted I saw your post on 2 sticking the D205 transfer case and think you went into it a little why the 2 sticks there.
I also dont fully under stand what adding the drum on the trans will do for you. Oh I get it now with the twin sticks and D205 TF and the brake on the trans you can then lock either front or rear axles with the twin sticks to do what you want to do.
Got it now

You may find the band brake parts on eBay. If so, I had mine relined by a brake shop not far from you. My band was bare metal. I was able to find drums and bands but bands were all as bad as mine You would need the transmission rear housing to mount it as well.
Thanks for the info..!
I, again looked there and LO and Behold...There it was..!
Was missing the Hand Lever & Drum, ( seller shared he broke the drum removing it ) but purchased anyhow.
Did find another set of parts just browsing...has the drum and the brake band.
The brake band looks to have a pretty good lining still.
Problem though...They don't have the elusive hand lever.
Kinda near Barstow area...great..!
When I got out of the service back in the 70's...bought a place in Newport Beach... Got too crazy there...started moving slowly back towards the desert areas.
Now South of Corona in LE.
First time I rolled my truck was there at the Pinnacles there before Trona.... Spent the night before walking into town to get help from my Uncle.
There used to be a kind of pool there outside of Trona, about the size of a football field They filled it in with sand long ago.
As kids... we used to walk bare footed along the hwy out to the pool with our friends and back during our Summer month vacations...
My Uncle was the Super at the Potash plant... Not much of a town now... My Aunt is still there.
I heard a lot of Trona was badly damaged by the earthquake a couple of years ago. There wasn't much there before. The mineral plant was about the only business.
Yes... It was BAD... Still aftershocks to this day.
My Aunt up there lives alone, she is for the most part...blind.
A close neighbor looks out for her.
My father was stationed there @ China Lake.
Funny fact: I was delivered in a Ford station wagon on our way from Trona to Ridgecrest hospital.
I have property there as you come out of Red Mountain, headed towards Ridgecrest, North of the Trona road, off East of the 395.
One of the crazy things we used to do when " young & dumb "... Find out of local junk yards... old cars.
Strip the bodies off them to get as light as possible.
Go and race across the dried lake bed out of Trona to see how far we could get before they broke through the surface crust and sink out of sight....still running..!
