All - my wife's truck is a 2010 Escape Hybrid Limited with about 135K miles on it. She still loves it... Recently, about half of the instrument cluster lights have gone out. Looked up my model at the local auto parts store, went and picked up a box of bulbs, and then took the IC out, and guess what....NO replaceable bulbs! Finally found a couple of posts that confirmed this for the 08-12 clusters (they use LED panel bulbs), including this thread here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...placement.html . Ford wants a bit over $600 to put in a new one! I'm not really comfortable with trying the removal and resoldering of led boards from a donor unit. So, I've been reading up on programming software, and FORSCAN appears it may be an option? If I can find a good working and compatible used 2010 cluster, how difficult is it to/is it even possible to program a used cluster into my vehicle? Anyone done it here themselves?
As a related topic, I am finding a number of 2010 salvage yard clusters (with message center) I can buy. What I'm having a tough time getting a clear answer on is which 2010 "versions" are compatible. For example, my unit is a 10849-AB cluster. I can get a 10849-CG and CH version from a donor 2010, but not really sure if it will be fully compatible. Even a couple of Ford dealer sites when I plug in my VIN number I've gotten AA, AB, and CA as their version they'd supply me!??
If you are speaking of the last two letters in the part number that is indicative of a change or update. You will want a same model or newer.
Yours is an AB you want AB or newer. AB or CA will work fine. AA may work fine, but why backdate.
As for the soldering, it wasn't hard at all, more time consuming sweating than anything.
Your above concerns were also why I stuck with simply replacing the LEDs, as long as I was careful the only problem would be nonfunctional LEDs.
My concerns with doing a reprogramming myself was there is always a hitch with aftermarket programmers. And is seems like half the time its the submodel you are working on that the program won't work on for some reason or another.
Hi Mike - sorry for the delayed thank you for the reply. Are you saying that CG or a CH from a donor 2010 Escape will also work, or should I stick with just AB or CA versions?
Also, for the soldering led option, did you find a source for new led boards, or only source is from a donor used cluster?
