I just purchased my 99 Expy EB. with the 4.6 L V8 It has 47K Mi. The dealer said that they changed the oil using Motorcraft 5W 20 synthetic blend and Motorcraft oil filter. I am in Louisiana and was wondering if this oil was to thin?? A friend of mine said that I sould use the 10W 30. Does anyone know what Ford suggest for my climate?
On another subject I noticed a slight ticking from the engine. It appears to be coming from the passenger side. You can not hear it in the cabin and I did not hear it this morning until I drove it about 12-15 miles or so. My friend that listened to it said that it may be a hydrolic lifter and that using the 10w30 oil may correct that.
Any Suggestions or input?? Also any suggetions on what the best air filter is for increasing mieage??
The motorcraft filter is among the best designs made regardless of cost. That the Motocraft oil are perfect for your engine. Going to a higher viscosity will only cause more wear, and more lifter noise as it will struggle to get lubed during cold start ups. Stay with the dealers recommendations and change intervals and you won't go wrong. Standard dino oil 5w-30. Syn blend 5w20 during winter weather is okay. Your original owner's manual said Motorcraft 5w30 premium oil for higher and lower temps than anything you will ever encounter in LA.
Thanks for the input. I have only had this vehicle for 6 days. Any additional advice on proper maint or upkeep is GREATLY appreciated. I would like to add mods to it later. Right now I dont want to do anything that could void my waranty..
