Bed Mat with Puck Cutout?

Hi All-

My 2019 F-250 has the puck system in the bed. I'd like to place a rubber bed mat in the bed. Is there one that comes with a hole already cut out for the puck opening or is it simply a matter of cutting one myself?

Thanks

To my knowledge, there's not a mat available to accept the gooseneck setup. You'll just have to measure everything out and cut them out. You might try a hole saw, it might be the easiest way to get a good circle cut.

I know a rubber mat is thicker, but when I put our BedRug in, it was simple cutting it out with a razor knife. Depending on thickness of the mat you get, should really be pretty easy

I have a Ford bed mat and used a hole saw to make a hole for the goose ball. The mat was surprisingly tough to drill through.

If you're going to just use the gooseneck hole, then it would work okay for that, but if you want to use the mat with a 5th wheel hitch, you would have to cut the area between the two pucks on each side because most of the hitches wouldn't fit otherwise.

This!! The hitches lay flat on the bed between pucks. If you use a bedrug, no problem since they compress, but a rubber mat, you would have to notch to make work.

It should be possible to drill a pilot hole from underneath the truck, right? That way there is no guessing about where the hole needs to be cut.

I have metal and wood hole saws. I would likely start with the wood hole saw and see it that does the job. It would tear up the rubber the least I think, making for a nice smooth hole.

Reciprocating saws work very well for cutting thick, rubber bed mats. Either an electric jig saw or a sawzall work well. I used a Sawzall to cut a 3/4" Tractor Supply stall mat I was using as a bed mat.

I think that would be a chore and a half!
At the very least, you'd have to use a very long drill bit, and then maneuvering it in from the bottom would be a challenge.

I have used horse stall mats on last two trucks. They are 4’x6’ and 3/4” thick. I have a long bed and the length worked out great. Just have to take your time fitting them. I cut a cardboard pattern and then cut everything on mat. You WILL have to give clearance though. But if done right the cutouts will drop back in place when not in use. The 3/4” thickness holds everything fine. Best protection you can get imho. They are about $70 each at farm stores.

I made 4 round holes for my Reese and it fits just fine with no cut outs between the holes. Your hitch may be different.
You'll never get the holes cut with a razor knife in a rubber bed mat. You'll need a hole saw, a big drill motor behind it, and some scrap wood under the mat to protect the bed. This is a Westin mat, made of recycled materials. You can see how thick the thing is.

It would be great if the bed mat makers would mark the mats where the holes should be cut, I'd have paid extra for that.

That's what I did originally, but I get sand and sawdust and dirt the falls into the gaps between the mats, so I'm looking for a solid one-piece that I put in. Hole saw is what I used to cut out the opening for the gooseneck. I used the Anderson Ultimate Fifth Wheel hitch which sits on top of the stall mat - works great, except for the cracks. I also want something that can be blown or washed out easily, so I'm looking for a semi-smooth finish, certainly not a carpet type finish.
Thanks.

I kinda surprised you managed that. Only way I've found to cut these mats - bed mat or stall blanket (same deal I imagine) is with a very sharp box cutter or razor knife. No saw blade in my shop made a dent in it - sawsall, jig, etc. "Hah I'll just rip this SOB with a carbide circular saw blade" Ah, no you won't. I've cut up quite a few for projects and the razor knife gets it done. Nothing much makes a dent in those things. Have not tried a hole saw - will have to experiment on a piece of it. In any case, cutting through a 3/4" think bed mat is going to be some work. One reason I'm considering the bed rug for the new 2022.
