I have a 1926 ford model t with ford f100 drum brakes. Is there a easy way to replace these cylinders without taking the entire drum brakes apart?
thanks
Jerry
Well, I've never tried it that way. Of course you have to remove the drum. You could try removing the cylinder without removing the shoes.
Here are pictures of my original 55 rear and also my new 71 rear.
Really when you are at this point you can go ahead and try to pull the cylinder and see what happens. Worse case is you have to pull the shoes.
I will say I have and F250 but I think the hardware is the same. For the new 71 rear, I have to remove the axle to get the drum off. That is annoying for sure.
Will do thanks. I think I can just move the shoes out of the way and put in the new wheel cylinders.
Thanks
Jerry
You should be able to just remove the spring below the wheel cylinders, and then push the shoes out far enough to get the cylinders out fairly easily. Did it on a '49 F2 last night.
