Exclamation SHIFT TUBE

SEE damage to my tube........the metal is actually worn done in layers not length !!! First the plastic, then the metal layers are disintegrating !!!
I want to know if this is natural wear !!! What caused this sever wear ???????
Is grease the only protection when end is inserted in to shift collar ?

Yes grease is. I have never seen this before. Usually the shift collar wears Or the metal tab on the shift tube snaps off.
According to my DC catalog dated 2/2013, they carried them for $50.00. But I don't see it on their web site now. They used part number C5TZ7212C. Which is the same part number Ford used for 3 speed manual and w/o power steering. I am assuming you don't have power steering. That number had been replaced by two parts. D3TZ7212C shift tube and D3TZ7228C shift collar. This shift collar was replaced by D5TZ7228B. With power steering was part number C9TZ7212D. The only N.O.S. C5TZ7212C I see out there is at the following. I didn't try g**gle or bing.

JEFFFAJA...How far down in the shift tube does the end I posted fit into the tube. The end fits into a small tight inner tube but it looks like it is not down inside far enough in the small inner tube. I will post a photo in a few minutes !!!!!!! I am reassembling my old tube for now. I am worried it may not be going in far enough. I do have the shift levers & washers install. I had to have a new bearing welded in because column had broke and that is what probably caused the weird wear ! I just want to ge it back right to stop the wear !!!!!! Be back soon with some pics......
P.S. RIGHT ABOUT NON POWER STEERING & MANUAL STEERING.....
I DID CONTACT SELLER THANK U GREATLY........I PRIVATE MESSAGED U ABOUT THIS LAST WEEK.......

I am thing hole for the column shifter lever should be more towards the center of the opening !!! Friend tig welded the tab to keep it from popping off... Will paint this end Rust Red !!! ha

I work hard 2 keep a clean & orderly work table........& it hard 2 do.......lol This is just 1 corner.......

Actually the shift tube END in the first photo post does not go in the shift collar !!!!!!!!!! oh..........I think when column bearing holder broke & because column was misaligned put the inner shift tube in a aquackard bind & caused it to rub away the end material................!!!
WHAT U THINK...........I JUST NEED TO GET IT BACK RIGHT, LET ME KNOW IF I AM ON THE RIGHT PATH !!!!!!!!!

Hello RTT,

I came across your post and issue. While I dont have a fix this late in the game, I was wondering if you went with a new tube or made yours work and in either case what did you do about the nylon sleeve?
I have my column apart and my sleeve is damaged.
Been looking for a replacement but cant seem to find one yet.

Any thoughts?
