Has anyone swapped from oem housings to the commercial sealed beam version? I replaced my housings with Amazon cheapos and the lasted about 4 years. All the aftermarket housings leak and dont last. I want to switch to the sealed beam like the fleet super duty has. Anyone know whats involved?
It can actually be the best headlight upgrade you can make short of using the 2021 factory LED swap but those are selling used for about $800-900 each and require a whole front sheetmetal swap.
i am in the process of doing the 5x7 swap using the hardware off a 06 f250 xlt.
You can use 99-04 f250 but if you look close the 05-06-07 use a one piece cover.
the 99-04 uses a separate blinker and side marker.
the reason this can be the best upgrade is thanks the commercial trucking industry still has many semi trucks on the road that use sealed beams so JW Speaker these in the USA and being for commercial applications they are the real deal. I will uses the heated version to melt snow and ice off the lens.
( something the stupid Chinese conversion kits cant do making them useless in the snow )
I was looking at upgrading the lights on my '03 and ran across danielsternlighting.com. I emailed and Daniel got back to me with a very detailed explanation of why going sealed beam is the way to go. Basically how the LED/HID lights should not be used and for best performance the sealed beam is best although maybe not as cosmetically pleasing.
Now instead of upgrading to an '05 headlight, I may just go for the sealed beam.
Here is a pic of an Ex I found while doing my research.

I am doing this same conversion. I got the parts from a friend who works at a ford dealership. They do not have a diagram how the parts go. Do you have a picture of where the spring goes and the direction of the anti-rattle clips? The adjusters are self explanatory. I just can not figure out where the tension spring goes. There is no spring tab like there is on most headlight buckets.
I didn't take pics when I did this mod but if memory serves me correct, there's a lip on the oem buckets (circled in red on these Dorman units) the spring hooks onto and then over the the designated squared hole in the header panel.
