If ride quality is such a big concern to some of you, why get a solid front axle Ford in the first place? Get a IFS GM.
Or a 2WD twin I beam Ford. I have driven twin I beam Fords for 500,000 miles between 2 trucks and never even put an alignment on either, much less worried about death wobble. And saved a bunch of money on purchase, maintenance and gas along the way.
I plan on buying a 23’ SCSWB to replace my current 15’ plow truck.
There is only one single reason I’m buying a SC, and that’s a more maneuverable wheelbase for plowing. After that, I would find it totally useless.
A few thoughts:
1. Invest in things that appreciate in value, like stocks and real estate. Motor vehicles, generally, do not increase in value.
2. I tend to get a new truck about every 12 - 15 years, so resale is just about a moot point.
3. You want a short super cab. Odds are someone else will, too. Just a matter of finding him.
4. I ordered myself a real unicorn to pull my 5th wheel with. I'm certain no one else wants my truck but me. Fine. It's my truck. 2wd, 8ft, XLT super cab, gasser. Perfect. For me. As to resale, that will likely be my children's problem, not mine, if I can get 20 years out of it as planned.
Do what I did. Get exactly what you want. And if that's not available now, then wait. There is no downside to having exactly what you want.
funny you mentioned 2wd. I always thought an XL or XLT CCLB 2wd F350 with the 7.3 and 4.30 would make a fantastic tow rig up to the class C limit in CA. Lots of gears, lots of payload, lots of gas(48gallons) and no drivetrain loss, no expensive diesel and 4x4 parts to maintain.
I don’t own my big travel trailer anymore so I opted for a 4wd drive 250. If I still had it I would have ordered either what I described above, or a Ram 3500 CCLB 2wd with 4.10, 50 gallon tank and the 6.4 Hemi.
I have has a SCSB 350 6.7 with just about every option available on order since June. Absolutely zero movement on the order so I put another one in for a CCSB with the Lariat premium and the nicer headlights. My current truck is too long for what I need and tow and the shorter wheelbase is what I'd rather have. To me, the SC had plenty of room in the rear for our needs vs the CC but I bet Ford may built one of those and it's probably not the SC.
I love my SCSB. I think it looks great, the CC trucks look like busses to me. It fits in the garage, it can haul people in the back. Easier to park and see out of. The ride with the gasser is great. Friend of mine has ridden in my F350 SCSB and said it seemed to ride as good as his F250 6.7 CCLB Platinum. Another friends Mega Cab Ram does pretty much ride like a half ton with the rear air suspension.
I read most of these posts and wonder why would you NOT want a SCSB? Took one phone call to sell my old SCSB truck... What's not to like?
Maybe Im jaded but 14,000 doesnt seem heavy to me. My 6.2/4.30 is rated to 15,000 and with the lighter engine payload is high for a 250.
Ive never had an issue with parking or maneuverability with the CCSB. The ride of my 2019 SD was noticeably better than my previous 2500 GMC. which was a reg cab 8' bed.
As others have said. You should get what you want and what suits your needs. But personally I get an email from the dealer and post cards in the mail almost daily. Wanting to get me to trade for a new truck.
From my perspective... paid for 2019 with 30,000 miles vs anything they have to offer? Im holding.
My opinion, mess with the suspension a little on your 17.
As mentioned the super cab works great; unless you are hauling adults long distances or loading stuff while parked in tight parking spots (but it has some loading advantages too). I have had all 3 cabs in the aluminum trucks.
Not to paralyze you through more analysis options but have you looked at the regular cab 8 foot bed super duties?
even shorter wheelbase. and the behind the seat storage is suprisingly large for what it is. no manual transfer cases anymore so the middle seat sits an adult.
Your passenger situation may shut that down immediatly but if not It may meet your needs even more then a supercab.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the RC 8’ is the same WB as the SCSWB.
Yes, you give up box space, but gain interior space, and a place to toss stuff in the back of a SC.

I have a reg cab 8" bed 350 with 7.3/4.30s on order for work. Its a govnt contract truck so XL but with some options. Im pretty excited about finally getting.
But My regular plow truck is a 450 mason dump and Ill be taking the new 350 when it arrives. Im under the impression the reg cab 350 might be less maneuverable in tight places than the 450 due to disturbingly tight turning radius on the 450.
I have to admit I dont know what the difference is in wheelbase between a 450 reg cab & chassis and my own CCSB F-250. But the 450 definitely turns in way tighter.
And Ford really did a great job on the 17 & up SDs standard interiors. The vinyl seat with flip up center console are the best base seating Ive ever had The only draw back is they arent vertically adjustable. So when plowing in very tight spots I need to sit way up to see my marker if I have the plow all the way right. If I was over 6' it might not matter. But that is the only complaint I have with these seats.
Our 2010 XL450 has the bif wide bench seat thats way too soft and also too low. I feel like a 12 year old driving that one.
If you're towing heavy you can get 48 gallon gas tank with long bed. That would be my #1. I didn't want a long wheelbase but after much heavy towing experience, I'd suck it up. I'm waiting for an aftermarket gas tank.
I ordered my 2021 SCSB 7.3/4.30 to tow a fifth wheel. See the picture for my setup, it seems pretty stable and fine for my purposes. If I still had young children I would have opted for the crew cab though.
