im doing the glow plugs and harness on my 6.0 ... i have the 6.0 motor with icp relocated to front passenger valve cover... the glow plug harness is brittle and so far all are stuck and break off even with the hremoval tool.... using the screw method ive gotten 3 out but at least one has broken up on the bottom of the connector and pieces have fallen in the hole one of which was a decent size... i was trying to get it with needle nose but couldnt fit it back through the hole... tried to vacuum it out but no luck and now i cant even find it... i did some searching but really couldnt find much... some say it just sits there and no worries... some say it goes to the oil pan and will drain out with the oil and some say it could clog this or that....
does anyone have an answer whats most likely to happen to the pieces if i just leave them and what could possibly happen and what i should do? i really dont want to remove the valve cover and fuel rail because by looking at the bolts something will probably break
That is the oil drain hole, so the material will drop onto the upper oil pan or windage tray, then eventually make it to the oil pan. The screen on the oil pickup will keep larger particles from going through the LPOP, and over a few oil changes could drain out or get caught in the recession around the oil drain plug. If there was a significant amount of harness material dropped down, more than one or two GP connectors, it might reduce the flow to some extent. Smaller pieces that can make it through the screen will go through the oil pump, but since they are plastic, they will not damage to the extent of hurting oil pressure, probably just leave a mark.
so basically whatevers in there will make its way to the oil pan with little to no risk then the risk begins at the oil pickup from the pan? im due for an oil change (been looking for motorcraft oil for a couple months now lol) so i could run it for an hour or so or even a minute or so if that would be enough time that it should work into the pan and be able to hopefully drain out then drain the oil and just hope for the best?
im on the jersey shore to in toms river wanna come have some fun?
When you do your drain and have excess oil around, putting some in a container and then taking the old harness, hammering an end into pieces, then seeing if the piece float or sink would be interesting. If they float on top, they might not be so much a pickup screen factor.
if the pieces have safe passage to the oil pan without clogging or breaking anything i think what ill do is clean out as much as i can with a vacuum run it for a minute or so then drain and screen the oil and cycle the oil it through multiple times increasing the run time each cycle before i put fresh oil in... i guess ill just hope they make it safely to the pan and drain out
