Lowering a Mountaineer
I have a semi-invalid that has trouble getting in and out of my 97 Mountaineer. I need to lower it without having to change shocks and as cheaply as possible. What is the best way to do this and how much can it be lowered without problems?

Is it 2wd or 4wd? If it is 2wd - it is very simple. You loosen the torsion bars on the front to lower it, and put blocks on the rear. Total cost is about $25.00 to lower it and whatever your local alignmen shop charges for a new alignment.

Thanks for the response. It is a 2 WD. Is there somewhere I can get detailed instructions on how to do this and what parts to buy? I am not familiar with the vehicle. Only had it a couple of months.

i don't have any detailed info but i bet a chiltons manual or some other repair manual will tell you how to adjust the torsion bars in front and the rear blocks will come with thier own instructions. it should be pretty straight forward and easy.
