Emissions Test

Hey all, moving to an area that will require an emissions test the next registration renewal. Betty is about to roll over 180K, and to my knowledge never had to be tested. Aside from checking the timing, TP sensor, making sure there's no codes stored, new fuel filter, and a clean air filter.... anything else I should be looking at in advance to ensure she passes?

Shouldn’t really be much to worry about, mine is at about 140/150K and sails through PAs emissions testing every year. Just make sure the tech understands exactly what tests are required for your weight and year, here mine just needs the visual inspection and tailpipe sniffer vs the at speed under load test on the rollers that cars need.

*This. The ex was never odb2 and if you try to test it as such it won't work.

It depends... There are both OBD1 and OBD2 versions of the Excursion.

For non-California vehicles, it would be most accurate to state that it only has to meet OBD1 emissions standards due to its weight classification.

Well, figure since Larimer County, Co requires everything for anything after '81; I just assumed better safe than sorry. They don't really mention OBD1 vs OBD2 or even weight making a difference on the test. The only just sniff test they mention is for the prior '81 vehicles. From the website, it describes everything having to go on the rollers unless you pass the pre-sniff qual pass thingy.

Read the label on the underside of the hood. It will tell you to which emissions standard it should be tested to.

How your locality does it may very as long s it fulfills EPA requirements.
