Engine Oil Weight

Got a 86 with the factory 302. Supposedly 90K original miles. What weight oil is everyone running? The window sticker from the previous owner says 5w30 was used last oil change (Still within date and miles). But on cold mornings (Central Alabama) it has a ever so slight tick to it. Will eventually clear up and go away once really good and warm.

Thinking on bumping up to at least 10w30?

I grew up using 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter on old fords and I'm largely planning to keep doing that with the one I have now. But I'm in Alberta which is significantly different temperature wise.

I dont think you understand oil viscosity.
You should search oil weights and temperature.

Your Owner Manual says 10W-30 or 10W-40. Adds that 5W-30 is okay for cold climate.

This is my root question. 10w30 is the recommended oil weight. Being in Alabama with not as cold climate as northern states, is 10w30 better for the engine.

Yes, 10w-30 is what you should be using down there. Also 6 quarts.
