I have a VIAIR Dual 485C arriving next week, and could use some tips on where to install it. I live in New England so I'm not too keen on installing it above the spare tire as I've seen in other threads. So I am looking for some guidance on an in-bed install. I am also considering getting a toolbox for the bed and putting the system inside to minimize visibility/potential for theft.
If going with a toolbox, you can probably tuck the compressor underneath it to maximize space.
If you're wanting security, the Retrax MX Pro bed cover is awesome. You'd be able to tuck the compressor under the bed cover canister and also lock the bed cover.
it’s not a Viair but this is how I have my Airlift WirelessONE setup in my 2020 and how I’ll be setting it up in my 2022 when it gets here. I has an Extang Solidfold tonneau so they’re covered from the New York weather and road salt and when I’m towing my 5th wheel with the cover folded up my transfer tank and compressor are still somewhat covered under the forward most panel.
I installed both tank and compressor underneath on the passenger side frame rail. I couldn't fit it above the spare tire while keeping the compressor in the recommend upright position. So far its holding up fine to Canadian Winters. I do spray it with anti-rust spray in the fall when I do the rest of the truck.
