snowplow recommendations
Any recommendations, tips, pitfalls to avoid? threads to read? I did a quick search on it and didn't see anything standing out.
I normally attempt to research the heck out of things but I don't know how quickly they want to move on this.
Read a review about myers near me and it seems like their quality is terrible now?
I see a western unimount and a fisher is available. If they are paying I'd like something nice, they just aren't going to pay for the best probably..
company close by that does installs; carry snowdog, flink? and western. I didn't search for anyone else yet.
On the other hand if I give them a ridiculous quote I could probably avoid beating my truck up and having to upgrade parts (I'll have to pay for) I probably wouldn't need to otherwise.
I don't have to use my truck and if I could find a plow truck for the cost of the install they are willing to pay I'm going to see about going that way.. I know it isn't easy on them.
If they are truly serious about this, my proposition is, I plow the lot X amount of times to cover the cost of the plow and than they compensate extra on top of my hourly afterwards to cover expenses.
Finding reliable plow ppl this year has been hard, I couldn't get anyone out to even give an estimate except 1 person and they flaked when we tried to sign on the line.
I want them to buy me a bobcat to be honest with blower/sand spreader attachments because it's a decent sized lot, but I'm dreaming..
With a bobcat you can also come back in the spring and straighten all the gravel back out. No matter how you set the feet on the plow, unless the ground is frozen rock hard you are going to be moving gravel with the snow.
I can at least manage that better, plow guys don't care.
I bring up the bobcat every year, it just isn't going to happen. Oh how nice it would be in getting the lot back into shape come spring also instead of doing it by hand.
We had a tenant who runs an excavating business in the back who would trade work for his rent. His son is now running the business and I'm not sure how
that's going to work out. He already has failed on the snow removal. Maybe not entirely his fault because he had 2 guys lined up supposedly and they flaked on him also. Which brings us to here.
we don't have the plow come thru now until 2+" now. They kind of skim the lot, which sucks when it turns to ice and I am getting off topic..
I had a Meyers on my truck. It was a 7.5 ft. my f150 handled it fine, my f250 handled it better. A f250/350 can handle a 8ft. As far as brands, I would research the dealers near you, and which ones have parts on hand and good service. I always wanted to try one of those articulating plows that pivot in the middle. Some people love them, some people hate them. I think they would work good in a deep snow, to make a vee plow out of it. I found in a deep snow I could not angle the blade. If I did, the rearend of the truck would swing around in the deep stuff and then you are stuck out of the pathway you made. Keeping the blade straight and taking baby bites while repositioning the truck does work in a deep snow.
I'm guessing yours was of the older quality?
Anyway the closest Myers dealer is an hour plus away and as posted their reviews are terrible hah.
Closest dealer has the 3 brands I posted in first post. That's where I'm going if they agree to it and it seems like it benefits me.
Installing a used setup, does not seem beneficial to me. There is no backup trucks, the clapped out setup breaks and they don't get plowed.
I don't get paid enough to fix that stuff either. Do you think I'm wrong on insisting on new quality gear vs used unknown? I'm not going to insist on stainless plow..
If it was their truck than it wouldn't be up for discussion.
Yes the V plow would be awesome for deep snow, what I've read about them says they shine in that situation. I really doubt they will spring for that
since he's giving me used junk prices. Probable expects me to do my own install too.
