I was doing some investigating into my EGR today and am wondering if this problem is related. I have noticed while accel. that my engine stutters while passing through the 1200-1400 rpm range. I had it parked today and slowly revved the engine. I had my foot lightly on the gas so it would slowly move up and when it hit around 1300 rpms it would stutter and drop down to 1000, then move back up to 1300 stutter and back down. The only code I have is Insufficient EGR flow (#401). Would these two problems be related? Or would this be a seperate issue? I have recently had the plugs, wires, fuel filter, and fuel pump replaced so I don't believe that any of these would be the cause. Of course I usually have more questions than answers so I could be way off. TIA
pulling off the egr valve and checkign to see if it is carbon clogged would be the easiest way to test that. sounds like it could be a good possibility.
The computer can't actually measure the EGR flow, so don't take that code definition literally. It's assuming insufficient flow because it can't make the EVP move as far as it wants to, so check all your vacuum lines. A vacuum leak under the dash or inside the brake booster could keep the emissions systems from working, so check EVERYTHING. Also, test the EVP - it may be sending a bad (low) signal to the EEC even when it's wide open, which could make the engine cough. The Haynes manual tells how using a vacuum gauge/pump and a multimeter.
Steve83 clearing house!! Good to hear from you. I attempted to play around and clean my egr valve today. I pulled a vacuum hose off the top today and snapped it off. Spent most of the morning rigging that back together and decided I had done enough car damage so I sat down to do some liver damage. I'll look into all of your suggestions. You mentioned the brake booster; I have a abs light throwing off a code 26 which I believe corresponds to a malfunctioning HCU. Could this be related to my EGR/vacuum problems?
