I'm pretty sure that this question has been asked before. What is the deal with the 1954 grills? I have searched on the general internet and here on FTE.
I occasionally see one for sale but not seeing very many or often. I've seen some earthly prices on used ones but you snooze you loose on them. I'm not going to pay an outrageous price for one unless I can hold it in my hands and look at it in person. I see that a couple of the other years are reproduced and I guess that I would think that would be what they have to cost. BUT the main question is why am I not finding any reproduction 1954 grills? Preferably steel, not chrome? Have they ever been reproduced?

Since you asked, I'll give my opinion. I believe there's at least a couple reasons why the 54 grille is not reproduced. Given its size and shape compared to the other years, it would be the most complex to build the stamps and dies for, so there would be added expense over other years. It arguably has always been viewed as the least attractive and least popular of any of the 4 years, so demand would be far less than the others, making it harder for a maker to recoup their larger investment from a miniscule pool of buyers. Of course, this comment will likely start a firestorm among the 54 faithful here, but hey, facts are facts. That's my 2c.
A lot of the 53-55 F100 were retrofitted with the 56 grill because they came in chrome and like Wayne said the 54 was the least liked, kind of like the kid only a mother could love kind of thing... I'd like one to hang on my wall just to complete the set...
These seem to be the least liked but I like them. I've only came across two around here over the yrs of collecting 53-56 parts so I suspect the numbers of 54 trucks sold were lower than other yrs. Does anyone have productions numbers for them?
I have one for wall art which I would hesitate to part with and shipping shipping would be very expensive from Saskatoon, Sk, Canada. A local fellow has a chromed one on his 54 that looks pretty darn sweet.
1954 has the lowest production numbers (in the US) of the 53-56 trucks. That is true. But not because of the looks of the grille. The US was in a recession due the Korean Conflict ending.
I will try to remember to look on my books to get the actual number tonight.
Production of the 1953 Ford F-100 Pickup: 116,437 Production of the 1954 Ford F-100 Pickup: 101,202 Production of the 1955 Ford F-100 Pickup: 124,842 Production of the 1956 Ford F-100 Pickup: Short bed: 137,581 Long bed: 25,122
Without naming you all specifically thank you all for the information. I know there are a few still out there. The production number story is something that I hadn't heard yet. Question for Kevin and/or anyone else. Is the lower grill support and turn signals unique to 1954? I have either a 1953 or 1955 hanging from a purlin in the back of the shop. I thought of running it until I come across a '54 grill. Thanks again and for the pictures. Tomorrow I will be able to ID the '53 or '55 one that I have.
