Looking at my registration I saw where the DMV has my truck listed at 7999 GVW. Its door sticker shows 10,800 GVW.
Not sure if this is good or bad? I definitely know its good for me since my registration fees are cheaper.
That's how Florida does, you're registered for the highest weight in the bracket your curb weight falls under. Only reason they'd register it higher is if you tell them you have something permanently attached (like a crane or bolted on camper) that raises the weight of the vehicle or specifically request it because you want to pay more taxes.
They don't care if you tow or haul more than that as long as it's not permanent and thought it was weird when I called dmv/weigh station to ask.
If you're running commercial that's a whole nother ball game, which I assume is the case since you're talking about getting pulled over by dot to get weighed.
Ummm, get pulled over by DOT, they scale you and now you have a GVW of 10k lbs ??
Are you running commercial? That is the ONLY way your scenario even has a chance of playing out... People just can't seem to grasp that the DOT really does not care what your door sticker says. They will NEVER stop and scale a non commercial vehicle.
Now if you are running commercial, you need to get that changed or you could end up with issues. Otherwise, fabricating "what if" scenarios could go on for days up to and including a piano falling from the sky and crushing your truck or space aliens overloading your camper while you weren't looking.

Yes, I pull a trailer for my business and have commercial vehicle insurance.

That is empty vehicle weight. The 10,800 is GVRW, max weight when loaded
Running commercial you should brush up on your states laws. One thing that does happen at weigh stations in many states is that they check your tags if registered by weight. Some states register by empty weight if not commercial, and maybe commercial, not sure what your state does. You could get a ticket for hauling over the registered weight. BTDT

We have a winner!
Bottom line, in my opinion anyway, is that as long as your hauling or towing setup looks reasonably safe and you drive it safely, the law enforcement and weight enforcement people aren't going to give you a second glance.
I registered mine to the nearest bracket of the curb weight of my empty truck (8k for me). I emailed my DMV, they responded with "We don't offer guidance or instruction on how to register your weight, its up to you to decide. Then it's up to any enforcement officers to determine if you're under-registered". Helpful as all government bureaucracies. I do not do any commercial work, I tow a fifth wheel a dozen or so times a year.
I just got my title for my 2021 F350 DIESEL from the state of PA and it list GAS ?? Not sure I need to fix this or not.
Might need to if you have emissions testing. That would be a blessing here, as gas doesn't have to test for the first 8 years and diesel has to test every two years.
