2005 X limited 4x4 v10. Had my windshield replaced in mid October. Was all good until after New Years. See we didn't get rain or snow until then. Ever since I've been having very strange issues. When locking and exiting the vehicle I get a chime like the lights were left on (auto lights). If I stand and watch a few seconds after the lights shut off the radio comes on. I don't wait for it to shut off I basically turn the ignition on and off a few times open and close the door, etc until the radio doesn't turn on after locking it and the lights shut down. Also when the vehicle is running or in the ignition position none of the steering wheel control buttons work including the horn, airbag light is not illuminated. When the key is in the accessory position or off before opening the door, the steering wheel buttons all work including the horn. At first I was thinking GEM but think the 02+ had the VSM on the firewall correct? And they seem to have problems like this after getting wet from what I understand. Just wanted some feedback before contacting Safelite and demanding they fix or replace whatever is damaged.
So i tracked down and fixed the issues I was having and they all came from 3 broken wires on the cruise control module the lt. blue red wire, the black/yellow wire and the black wire were all broken at the module under hood. Turns out it was not the VSM. I was able to pull the VSM and it looked good, no water damage or anything. Just in case someone else has issues like mine seems like the wires were very brittle, but no idea what would of broken them, maybe a squirrel got under hood or something.
Glad to hear you got it fixed! Thank you for posting how you resolved it. Your write up on the symptoms will be helpful for others. Thanks for paying it forward.
