spark plug gap

If you open the gap on spark plugs does it make the plug run hotter or colder or what difference will there be? I have a F-250 W/351 I have put colder plugs in and it still pings on hills and hard take offs.

When you set the timing had your removed the spout connector. other wise the computer will try to adjust the timing while your turning the distributor.

Pinging could be from carbon buildup. Run a dose Chevron Techron treatment in the gas tank. That cured the pinging that my Ranger had. It was needed about once a year.
