I am picking up a 75' today. The 75' came stock with a 360 but it was rebuilt into a 390. It has a mild cam and a Holley 4 barrel. I need to put the 2 barrel off the 76' on the 75' to take it in for a I/M test. It will pass the test but not the visual without the proper carb.
Are the intakes different for the 390 or will the 2 barrel bolt right up?
The previous owner has had the truck since it was two years old but he cannot remember if they changed the intake when he had it built into a 390 or not. It was rebuilt in 1982 but has been parked since 1991 so he is a little fuzzy on the particulars.
It is possible that the 4V intake is a truck piece and available for 75. Ford did install 390's in trucks as an option. Look on the manifold, near the part number you should see a large "T". This would indicate a truck 4V and that should get you through the visual. Seems I remember a dollar figure that would allow you to pass smog with a waiver if repairs were to expensive? I had a Jeep that had the smog pump removed and Anchorage let me go because it would cost to much to repair. I sure as heck would not change the intake without trying to get through the test first.
