Hello,
New to the site and interested if anyone can help me understand something before I start my project.
Q:
My understanding is that my 1991 E350 van frame is 37" wide, and that F series of the same era are 34". Except the cab chassis F series that are 37" as well. Is this correct?
The van was originally a 2wd PG&E fleet vehicle that was built into a 4x4 sometime after. It came with 7.3IDI, E4OD. I currently have a dana 44 up front and will be doing an engine swap. The 12 valve Cummins will be replcing the IDI, which is quite heavy, therefore I will be putting a Dana 60 up front to support the weight and thrash it will recieve.
Q:
I am wondering what the width of the frame of a 2005 F350 supeduty is? I have picked up a matching set of '05 SD dana 60 axles (3.73) with all the attachments for the front axle ( steering components and gear box, track bar, radius arms, coils etc. ). I am trying to figure out the correct width and/or difference for the coils to buckets between frame and axles.
I have a long road ahead with this project but am pretty sure it will be worth it in the end.
Thak you for any info you can share. 1991 E350 7.3IDI E4OD Dana 60/44 3.54
The frame widths are not the same, vans are wider. You can have the spring perches cut off and rewelded, not sure what that would cost but proper alignment is critical. F250s of that era came with Dana 44HD axles, but of the TTB variety. Is there a solid axle version of that? I don't know. The 7.3 IDI is not very different, weight wise, from the 5.9 Cummins. Maybe verify what specific 44 you have, it could be fine depending on your use desire.
I do not know a lot about 4x4s but the drive train on these older vans is offset to the right side. At least on the E150's and I would think since the same body is used for the 350's, the same applies. I think the offset is 4 to 4.5 inches. that's why you have less foot room on the passenger side!
You have a big project ahead of you.. Check that rust carefully around the drip rail and under the door weatherstrips.
