Power Steering Pump recommendation?
I have settled on a Blue Top gear based on recommendations from members here. I will go with Gates or Parker hoses, but I am hung up on the power steering pump selection.
I want a product that is equal in quality to the Blue Top gear or my OEM pump which has been supurb, Is a Motorcraft Reman my best choice? I am hoping someone has a lot of miles on a replacement and can make a recommendation based on that kind of experience!
The truck is a Super Duty Super Cab XLT, V10, 4x4. 4R100.
I would just rather pay more for a quality pump and not have to do repeated warranty replacements of China junk as I've had to do on my hubs!
Thanks in advance!
FWIW - the pump was reman'd in Mexico. The steering gear mfg in . . . . . CHINA. I was a bit dissapointed to see the gear made in China. Had a i known it was going to be Made in China, I probably would have opted for a gear like the Blue Top.
Anyone know if the newer trucks are getting parts, like steering gears, from China?
I haven't installed either yet, so I can't comment on how well they will work or last.
If the pump was reman'd in Mexico it is probably fine. I've had several Motorcraft parts from Mexico that have worked and lasted well so I will certainly consider it. And I am thankful to know the steering gear came from China. (Ford does not make that infomation available on line.) I will NOT consider buying one after my experience with Motorcraft hubs that were made there.
I bought Motorcraft ESOF hub because I wanted OEM spec'd parts after another pair of Chinese made hubs failed prematurely. When the Motorcraft hubs came, they were labeled "made in China." After 30,000 miles each of them had an obvious dry bearing rattle. The original factory hubs made about 100,000 MORE MILES than either of the Chinese replacements did.
I think Ford is contracting with the lowest bider in China to provide parts after they re-tool for newer designs. In my case, it does not appear that Ford did any follow up quality control inspections after the initial approval. Or maybe they think we'll give up and buy new trucks when the parts fail again!
I wonder how much money that cheap-*** manufacturer saved by substituting low quality grease or cutting the amount they used or both ...maybe a few pennies a hub? But those pennies cost me over five hours time and several hundred dollars, and they certainly cost Ford my trust and any future sales of Motorcraft parts that are made in China.
Once bit, twice shy.
Made in China? I don't buy!
