Hello. Anyone have an idea what steering cylinder is on a 1976 f250 highboy? I think it might be a Lares 10074. But I am unable to find a replacement or a rebuild kit. Is there a compatible cylinder to replace it with? Mine is leaking something terrible.
Its a Bendix. Rod seal kits can be found NOS with some digging and patience. NOT available in aftermarket. Part Number D4TZ-3A764-A. I put a kit in mine but the cylinder and rod was in great shape. If your rod is worn or the piston and/or seals inside are gone you need to send it to Bluetop. There is no aftermarket replacement. The cylinder end caps are welded on. Bluetop is able to cut them open and replace worn parts then weld back together. I believe they manufacture the internal parts so its not something you can buy and do yourself even if you were able to get it apart.
There is a way to check the condition of piston seals.
Also the rubber bushing kit is available for the rod end mount.
Chances are your control valve will need rebuilt as well if it has not been serviced recently. Kits are available. Best to do both at same time IMO. I rebuilt my control valve. I have some experience in hydraulic systems rebuilding so it wasn't too bad for me but I think if I did not have that experience, I'd have had Bluetop do it.
