Fast Idle Problem
I've recently got my "53 Mercury M100 started up but I'm having problems with a fast idle.
I'm running modern running gear... 5.0L/AOD from an '86
Lincoln Mark VII. It's up and running now but it's racing at idle. Not sure what the problem is, but sure would appreciate some assistance in trouble shooting.

Is the throttle linkage adjusted properly? Try removing it to see if idle speed changes.
It may also have a vac. leak-check for a hissing noise.
Try removing the brake booster hose and plugging it(if it has power brakes)-it may be ruptured internally.
Of course I skipped the first check-idle adjustment screw-but you already checked that,right?

Thanks for the input... I don't think it's the linkage as it was in fast idle since I got it up and running again...b4 I connected the throttle cable. I will try plugging the vacuum hose to the power booster, I do have power brakes, but it's a brand new hose... I'll check the idle adjustment screw when I get it back from the muffler shop...hopefully this weekend! It seemed to open and close easily and all the way b4.

Brake Peddle Return & Fast Idle
Hi Guys!Got my exhaust system installed courtesy of fellow SOCP memeber, Ron Chasisson and stuck my vaccuum line back into my power brake booster unit... my idle is fixed/much better now but my brake pedal doesn't want to return.
Any suggestions?

I'm doing a "frame off restoration with modifications... I've deleted the clutch but retained the original brake assembly and added a mustang II power booster + master cylinder. There is a little "numb" at the pivot point of the brake pedal taht I could easily attach a spring to but there no obvious place to anchor the other end of the spring.
I didn't ever see the stock set up so I don't know what that looked like.
I'd appreciate a response form anyone who knows what the stock set up was like or how they solved this problem on a similar modification to a "slant cab" effie.
