Help! Weird electrical stuff….
1. Battery died 2 days ago. Jump start twice, no jump required any longer, but the battery is 3 years old, so I replaced it.
2. Before replacing battery, today, CEL light on, code for cylinder 7 misfire.
3. Get the new battery home and replace it, drive it around the block, running super rough, no CEL, but “Check Gage” lights come on and I lose: Tach, Trans Temp and Eng Temp.
before Christmas Eve, no issues. No lights, engine smooth, 187k on the clock. Plugs and coils haven’t been replaced in the 30k that I’ve owned the truck.
I can turn a wrench, but diagnostics are a little out of my league but I want to learn. Any advice or direction you may have is much appreciated!

1. alternator connector plug is tight ( the prongs get spread out )
2. battery terminals cleaned and tightened
3. all engine compartment grounds are clean and tight.
( if i recall correctly there should be 3 to the chassis and 2 to the block )
4. positive battery at starter and solenoid tight.
then using a Digital Multi Meter check
battery SOC, alternator charge voltage and voltage drop during cranking.
that will give you a baseline condition of your primary electrical system.
