Hey guys, new here, so I’ve got 2001 F250 V10 with 168k miles, it’s losing coolant pretty fast, gallon a week typically if not more. I don’t have a leak on the ground, no smoke out the exhaust ,except the cold start smoke. No milky oil, sitting perfectly from last oil change, blows good heat. Doesn’t even over heat, the only other thing is when towing heavy and really getting into it, has a slight tick. Doesn’t misfire or run rough. It does run a bit on the colder side tho. Any other ideas or is it a head gasket?
Have someone rev the motor to 2000+ rpm while you watch for bubbles in the degas tank (radiator expansion tank). A shop with a 5 gas analyzer can stick the sniffer in the tailpipe and let you know if it's burning off coolant.
Do a compression test next, if you have two adjacent cylinders that read lower than all of the others you can conclude that a head gasket replacement is in your future.
Otherwise, a crack in the intake manifold can also cause coolant loss and sometimes drive ability issues. Early 2V Triton engines sometimes experienced this.
