i have an 87 460, 7.5 liter, f-250. its about 35 degrees outside, and when i try to start it, the passenger side solenoid just clicks repeatedly and the starter isnt getting any power. Whats the problem?!
Sounds like a ground problem. I would check the battery cables (both ends) to make sure they are shiny clean. The cold weather can make a small ground problem appear worse.
When I say shiny clean, that's exactly what I mean.....I once replaced a starter three times thinking that was the problem after replacing the battery. The cable ends looked very clean, you know that grayish no corrosion clean? Finally I went ahead and pulled out my pocket knife and shined them up and put them back on the post's. Started right up. I refused to believe this was the problem because they looked so good and this was my daily driver, it just wouldn't start one morning. - lesson learned.
It could also be something else but I would start here.
