New Order Question

Hi all. Looking at ordering a 2022 f350 with the 6.2l motor. Has any one ordered the XL vs. the XLT? With the exception of heated seats and adjustable pedals I'm not seeing many differences between the two besides aesthetics when optioned out, and the price is about 4,000 less. Main wants are power windows, larger screen, reverse camera, rear locking differential, and sliding rear window. Am I better off just going with the XL?

2 reasons I went with an XLT instead of an XL was the front center console and the power scope mirrors, neither of which can be had on an XL. Also, FWIW, I went with the XLT Value instead of the XLT Premium… wasn’t interested in all the chrome or the wheels on the Premium option.

The XLT to me was the basic entry trim worth looking at. The XL seems like a basic work truck. Nothing wrong with that at all, but I wanted a few extra goodies and the XLT checked those boxes for me. Minus leather and LED headlights.

You can get all that on the XL.

You want the 18 inch rims and 18” AT tires if 4x4 to get the full rear GAWR. Assuming SRW 350.

Price the STX as well.

I just ordered an F350 XLT because front center console isn't offered in the XL trim. Otherwise would have gone XL/SXT.

I had a loaded STX ordered. With Fords horrible ordering system I ended up bailing and buying an XLT I found on the lot. Stickers were almost identical in price. What I DO NOT like about the XLT is the standard AEB (emrgency braking system) and BLIS that are forced options on the XLT. I REALLY would have prefferred not to have that GARBAGE on my truck. Bust a tail light on an XLT $800 because of "BLIS", break one on an STX, 1/4 the replacement cost.

As mentioned there are a few things you can not get on an XL/STX that you can on the XLT. I DO like my door entry keypad, though it can be easily added to an XL. Had I ordered an XLT, it would have come with a center console. And my XLT was also optioned with the power folding extending mirrors which I do not use a lot but I do like. The XLT came carpeted, I would have preferred the STX vinyl floor. You can not have your heated seats in either. You have to get leather in a Lariat for heated butts.

The differences between STX and XLT are pretty small but the number of configuration choices is pretty vast. Have fun ordering, hope they actually build you a truck someday.

I have an XLT Premium coming, so I'm not familiar with what the XL does or does not offer. Hell, I remember when XLT was somewhere in the middle of the lineup. Now it's near the bottom. Just out of curiosity, did you go to the Ford build site and try to spec one out for yourself? It's not bad at letting you know which options can or cannot be ordered together.
Life would be so much easier if we could just do it a la carte. Pick a model and grab what you like for options. For example, I would opt for LED headlights on the XLT. But that's not possible in the current situation. The way it is now you really have to pay attention. You might want a particular option that ends up requiring a higher dollar package or be lumped in with other options that you may not want.

I just took delivery of the F350 XT package and added $20k worth of add ons. Gave me everything I wanted and saved me about $4k from stepping up to the XLT for not much more features.

Incorrect. I had a 2017, 2019, current 2020 and ordered 2022 XLT with heated cloth front seats. But this is a premium. Maybe that's the difference. At any rate a Lariat is not required.

Yep, this is correct, you can get heated front seats with the XLT Premium package, and is the only part of the Premium package I wanted... I couldn't handle all the extra chrome though so just went with the Value package. IME, cloth seats usually don't take long to heat up anyway and is one benefit over leather. My wife had heated and cooled leather seats in her Pathfinder and I understand why... those things get super cold in the winter and super hot in the summer... cloth seats always seemed to adapt better.

Wife has leather in her Chrysler 300. I had them in a couple of older Cadillacs. Don't care for them and never been a fan of leather seats in any vehicle.
As long as I had cloth I used to be happy. Now heated cloth has become mandatory. My back has taken a liking to them.
After owning my first truck with Powerscope mirrors in 2017 that became another mandatory item. Nice for bank and fast food drive throughs or parking in a narrow spot. Fortunately the parking issue seldom comes up. More comfort items desired with age, I guess.

Thanks for the fact check. Guess I missed that but it is because I never considered the XLT Premium pack. I think all the chrome dodads and especially the chrome wheels are really unattractive, I would have gone XLT value straight to Lariat myself. Heated seats would have been nice, heated leather wheel would have been even nicer. Mine will get the heated leather wheel though because the plastic one sucks. Just a matter of getting the wife's kitchen remodel done first, then I can blow a grand and spend a day installing it.

Easy enough to do. So confusing sometimes when you're trying to build a truck online to prepare for ordering. I've never had or driven a heated wheel vehicle so I guess I still don't know what I'm missing there. Wife is adamant that she'll have it on her next ride.
And yes, keeping mama happy makes the rest of life go so much smoother.

The heated wheel is nice. I want to install in on my STX with sync3 but not for $1000.

I honestly do not think its that much and if it is I will settle for a basic ‘leather’ wheel.

Just going to leather you can find a wheel for $300-400 and there are no other costs. I think the heated wheel runs more like $500-700 and you need additional parts/harness wiring to get the heater to power up. I think $700-1000 is about what it takes to get the heated one. I also think you have to have the sync 3 minimum because that is where the switch is once enabled through Forscan. There are a couple good write ups on how to do it out there.
