Okay so the parts guy got a little rushed I’m assuming. Gave me a filter for a 6.7 Cummins. I didn’t know it threaded on an is holding oil psi fine no leaks nothing. I’m starting to think they’re two in the same. Lots of filters are interchangeable I’m assuming. Thoughts?

20 micron filtration
no anti drain back
Enhanced Cellulose filtration media

has anti drain back
Microglass filtration media
both filters are physically the same as far as size, thread size and pitch and gasket size

I’d take it back and tell them you want the correct part. That should be on them unless you acknowledged it was wrong to begin with and agreed to accept it when you picked it up. Either way, Ford recommends specific filters and that’s what I would want on my truck regardless of whether it screwed on the same. As noted above, the actual filters inside these 2 housings are very different. Im not sure if you just bought the filter, or had some else do your oil change, but this is another reason why I will be doing my own oil changes too… If you let them do the oil change, and haven’t already, you may want to check the oil level. And then you have to hope they put the correct oil in also… I’d want to have it all re-done, but correctly this time.

Yikes! I'd get that Cummins filter off of there ASAP.
I would leave it on (but only if it is larger) for a few reasons,........1:better flow through the element (micron rating), 2: the anti drain back valve on the Motorcraft does not function (mounted up right) so not needed, 3: as oil flows through a strainer (filter media), the lower the micron the more will bypass due to pressure build up. Nothing wrong with the Cummins brand, its been used on their engine for years.

well it’s not the Cummins brand. It’s the Cummins part number.

It's got a better flow because it's not filtering like Ford intended it too... I still say replace it with the correct part. This would be the perfect excuse for Ford to deny a warranty issue should something happen, and in this case, rightly so.
