hey guys, I have a question. What is the difference between a factory muffler, a turbo muffler, and a baffled muffler (flowmaster)? What are the pros and cons of each? I understand the baffled muffler concept pretty well, but how do you know which ones are good and really work and which ones don't?
Another question. I am working on modifying the exhaust system on my truck (partly why I am asking the above question), but I have run into what might be a problem. I have a 1978 f100 with a 300ci i6. I found a split exhaust manifold off an efi engine at the junkyard, and the two pipes that hook up to manifold. But I want a single pipe system for the most part. Is there any company that sells a two into one collector, or maybe even a two into one muffler? Either one would work I guess. Thanks.
so your running duals right now? if your not and your single. i think there should be a y pipe connected and this sends the exhaust down that single pipe exiting out of the side. there should be no need to by anything unless you just want to replace the y pipe just because you can, or maybe have to if its in bad shape. it sounsd like your already running duals and if so i wouldn't recommend going to single, it would probably be cheaper to stick to duals and just get a dual in dual out muffler and pipe it straight out the back. if your already single there should be no problem. i have to admit your post kinda confuses me.
Sorry about the confusion. No, I am running single right now because I have still have the old exhaust manifold on the inline six engine. What I am wanting to do, is replace the old manifold with newer ones from the efi version of the inline six because they flow better, almost as good as a header will. But, I only have one pipe, and I need someway to get both of the new manifolds to run into the stock pipe so I don't have to run completely new pipes. Make anymore sense now? Sorry I am having trouble making it understandable.
well i don't know much about the inline 6 engines, but from what your talking about it sounds like running a y pipe is all you need to do. the y pipe will take the exhaust of both manifolds and channel it down one pipe. you use single then plural. so you only have 1 exhaust manifold now? if you infact have 2 manifolds stock, then all you have to do is use the existing y pipe. see this is confusing me cause i never knew a truck could have one manifold. the truck in my sig came stock with two manifolds with a y pipe going into a single out the side. now its got a catback dual exhaust, but that had no effect on the y pipe. single all the way to the muffler where it goes dual, but thats a different story.
your saying your putting on two new exhaust manifolds but only refer back to having one. would the engine have a place for a second manifold? im not the most knowing user when it comes to this stuff. i only know what ive learned from these forums in the past 2 weeks and my searches on the net after getting interested in this stuff. if indeed you already have two manifolds on the engine there should be a y pipe or soemthing channeling the exhaust into your single pipe.
