Mine is slighty falling apart also, and would also like to know how to change it.

I have an '89 and it was pretty easy. Getting the old weather-stripping off - I used a flat head screwdriver to pry it off. Once I one started the rest just popped off. As for installing the new ones, just as easy. They snap into the holes in the tailgate. You are talking about the window weather stripping, right?

No. Like Bronco_89 said, it is very simple and can probably be done in less than 20 minutes.

Search this site - there are several really good step-by-step descriptions written here, which helped me do the job.
Couple hints:

1) Don't get impatient when removing the end caps. You have to kinda pull a little, then turn a little, then pull a ltttle more. Look at replacement to envision.

2) Make sure the replacement weatherbelt is *exactly* where it needs to be before clipping, as it will not slide once you're in there.

3) Lay a strip of masking tape along the top line of the gate before you start. (2" would be best) The weatherbelt attachment clips are sharp, and will scratch the **** outta the tailgate paint. Ask me how I know.

4) There's a little cuff of rubber on the end caps that wipe the outside edges of the glass - be ready to take back off, and sand a little off of the wipe line, (I used my Dremmel) if it fits too tightly, making the glass slow to close. (binding on the way down)

5) After you remove the old end caps, closely inspect the weld underneath. (weld at the very top of the gate - connecting the outer shell to the inner shell) Mine was broken completely. I was wondering what that annoying creek/squeak/chatter was coming from back there before I saw the broken weld. ($25. at my local welding shop to fix) Weirdly, the driver's side weld was fine. Probably was added stress from the outside spare on the pass. side that broke it, combined with a not great design. If you have to have welding done there, be sure to shoot it with something like clear Rustoleum before rebuilding, to prevent rust there. Just simple masking will do, as it gets covered completely.

If you don't have to do any welding or painting, it'll take you about an hour to do this job probably.

Best -

Click my signature and look through the Tailgate photo album - the captions explain how to do it.

For the glass run in the lip of the camper shell, you have to remove 2 phillps scres and a few push pins. The aftermarket runs are inferior, and almost as expensive as the Ford part.
