I’m researching and all I have dine so far is check the relay and #22 fuse which are both good. What’s next?
i will say the WTS light comes in for about 3 seconds then turns off every time ni matter if it’s cold or hot outside. It was 65 today and wouldn’t start without either. Ince running it’s fine. I’m slowly checking this and that tinkering on it. It’s my dads old truck and just needs some TLC. Thanks for any help.
If the relay is good then the next step is checking the actual glow plugs. If you don't have any knowledge of when they were ever done, might as well swap them out. Not a difficult task, not too expensive for motorcraft plugs.
Just wanted to make sure you understood the WTS light...
That has nothing to do with the glow plugs on our trucks, it is the PCM running and ready light if you want to think about it like that...
The Glow Plugs run based on oil temp and will be on up to about 120 seconds. The Relay is the middle component for the high current but the signal originates elsewhere.
Is your truck a Powerstroke, or an IDI? If you have a couple of bad glow plugs on an IDI, it will cause a short cycle of the glow plugs. This sounds to me like what is happening. On a Powerstroke, the computer times the glow plug cycle, so you could have only 1 working plug, and still get the full cycle.
