Looking for help to why my windshield wipers don’t work. 1996 E-350 cube van 7.3 diesel. Earlier this summer they would work very slowly. If I grab the wiper and kind of help it they would finally work . Now when I turn the switch I get nothing. I here a click on the passenger side when I activate it but the wipers don’t move. Checked all the fuses they are good. What would be my next step?
Before replacing the motor
Which is what you need to replace IMHO
Touch an additional ground wire to the body of the wiper motor
Sometimes they take off and go with the wire
Used to have to repair the faulty ground on the older ones that grounded thru the mount bolts
Your 96 does not ground like that but test it anyway
I have never had to lube the wiper transmission or replace one on a van. They are pretty tough

Your experience not withstanding and regardless how tough it is lubricating the wiper linkage IS a good idea----it takes strain off the motor making it last longer.
It comes from the same book of imaginary or made-up advice that says its not necessary or all that important to lubricate moving parts.
Lubing the wiper transmission is in no service schedule I have ever read
As far as the imaginary? book
I have a Ford master cert (took 20 years of book work) as well as being a dealer tech
You have one too?
