I don’t weld. But, are you already removing the seat? Removing the tank is really not much extra work. I would at the least drain the tank, but would more likely just replace it if you are stripping out the cab anyway. Everything I now do to my truck, when possible, I want it to be the last time I ever have to do it,

IMO, I would not risk the possibility of causing a fire since the seats will be removed and there are only 3 bolts securing the tank. Easy to drain the tank at the fuel outlet and offers opportunity to clean the tank. also clean the drain passages in the cab corners behind the tank. Intend doing same on my 65 at the beginning of next year
